On accelerating several thousand tons of weight, the control of the physical forces presents a technical challenge. At the same time rail vehicles are subject to extreme environmental conditions. They operate in wind and weather, are subjected to heat, cold, extreme temperature fluctuations, humidity and dust. Rail vehicles therefore have very robust drive, brake and train control systems specially designed for these conditions that are so hostile for technology.
Above all the sensors are directly subjected to the extreme weather conditions. Temperature sensors and rotational speed sensors are mounted directly on the motor, on the gearbox, on the wheel sets or on the axles. They must therefore be particularly durable. Their usage is also subject to quality and safety standards that vary by region.
Lenord + Bauer specialised in the manufacture of extremely robust sensors for rail vehicles decades ago. Along with the maintenance-free and wear-free rotational speed sensors and temperature sensors, rolling stock manufacturers all over the world value the precise measured values provided by Lenord + Bauer high-resolution incremental encoders. The long-lasting measuring systems are used for
The product range also includes odometers for the acquisition of the mileage of goods wagons.
The electronic components in the sensors are protected against extreme weather conditions, humidity, shock and vibration by specially developed manufacturing methods. They comply with common railway standards.
Most of these applications are individual solutions that have been developed in cooperation with our customers. One example are the multichannel sensors. They provide independent signals for several control units on up to four channels.
