Uniform drum sizes by sensing the material path when winding coils

Uniform drum sizes by sensing the material path when winding coils

The task:  The task:

Replacement of antiquated, analog measurement method for determining quantities, with the requirement that existing components be integrated.

Aim:

  • increased flexibility
  • shorter resetting times

Method of solution:  Method of solution:
As soon as the aluminum has reached its preset diameter, it leaves the mill train and once the material has cooled it is automatically wound on a coil. The weight and diameter of the coil varies depending on the diameter of the material.

Our solution:  Our solution:
A sensor is placed on the material and one on the winder in order to gauge precisely the quantity of material. The coil diameter is calculated by sensing the path of the material in conjunction with rotation of the coil; the coil diameter is output as an analog signal in the range 0 through 10V corresponding to a diameter of 0 (theoretical) to dmax, with the maximum diameter being preset manually. The GEL 8240 operator terminal enables simpler operation and drums of a uniform standard size are produced.

Our service offering:  Our service offering:

  • Problem analysis
  • Complete process engineering
  • Project management
